Motion designer Christian Stangl decided to dive into NASA's Project Apollo Archive and used stop motion to create a beautiful short film re-imagining the first the moon landing. 

The original photos were shot by the astronauts of the Apollo missions using medium format Hasselblad cameras specially adapted to work in low gravity. The files have such a high quality that allowed Stangl to stitch and animate them.

The final result is jaw-dropping:
